Clothing:
Roll clothes quite tightly . You will find you have less creases. Place rolled clothes on the bottom of your case. This gives you a level/flat surface for the next layer of packing. If you do want to fold clothes, place a piece newspaper inside the fold, this also cuts down on creases. Roll belts inside shirt collars, keeps collar in shape and stores your belt. Save space by running belts around the inside of the case. Place hats & coats on the top layer of your case - easy to reach if needed quickly. Remember where you are going on holiday. Girls, do you really need 6 pairs of heels for that beech resort. Guys, do you need all those shorts for your skiing holiday. Tablets, Laptops & Portable devices:
We all value our tablet & laptop, pack them in an easy accessible place. There is no point in burying them in your clothes until you have gone through security checks. You will be asked to remove them from your case, thus holding people up and showing them your M & S underwear. Use rubber bands or twist ties for keeping power leads/cables neat & tidy - Why not put them in your shoes. Charging Mobile Devices:
Whilst away we all need to charge our phones, iPods, cameras etc. so we use travel adapter plugs, but there are never enough power outlets. Why not buy a cheap 4 way extension lead. Instantly each power outlet becomes 4 Passports:
As obvious as it may sound, make sure your passport is in date/valid. Most countries, if not all, require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months. Make a copy of your passport, driving licence and credit cards and e mail them to yourself. This gives you added security & proof of who you are in the unfortunate event of loosing them. Tickets & Documents:
Keep your documents to hand. What's the point in burying them in your bag. Keep them in a zipped/fastened pocket or side pocket of your hand luggage. You know you are going to have to show them. Emergency Money:
Roll some standby emergency money into an empty lip balm or crayon tube. Not only does this give you a fall back plan, if somebody decides to have a peep in your case then they shouldn't be interested in lip balm or crayons. Toiletries:
Make your own travel size toiletries. Instead of buying expensive travel size shampoos etc, get some small empty bottles, making sure they are cleaned thoroughly. Fill them with your everyday toiletries. Those complimentary toiletry bottles from hotel rooms are handy. To save time at the airport, whilst packing, get a small see through bag and place your toiletries/liquids inside. Place this at the top of your hand luggage. Then you can walk past all those people picking their belongings up off the floor. At the airport:
None of us like queuing and children are no exception. Their brain tells them after 30 seconds "Let's go and explore". Make sure your children are wearing something bright, so as they are on their Arnie Saccnuson endeavours you will be able to spot them. Airport Ground Transport:
If you have to board airport buses to take you to your terminal and/or aeroplane, remember, Last On First Off. Why rush and get stuck in the back corner. You could be fist at the next queue or first sitting comfortably on the plane being entertained watching others fighting for above head locker space. At The Gate:
Most, if not all airlines request us to book our seats on line before we leave for holiday, so why queue at the gate ages before we are allowed to board the plane. Take a seat, relax, wait for your number to be called or just wait until the queue has gone and stroll onto the aircraft. Your seat is there welcoming you. Liquids & Food For The Plane:
We know that liquids are not allowed to be carried through security, but there is no ruling about taking your own snacks and sandwiches through. Budget airlines make a lot of extra cash by selling those snacks etc. on board. That way you are not limited to what you can have/want. Euros or Pounds:
We have all been asked whilst in restaurants if we want to pay in Euros or Sterling. Opt to pay in euros. That way your card company does the currency conversion rather than the restaurant. You will get a better exchange rate. At Your Villa:
Most villas have a combination key box outside. Make use of it as much as possible, that way you are not going to misplace the key. Enter the lock/unlock code into your phone. Do the same with the safe codes. When lazing around the pool or just relaxing at the rear of your villa, make sure your front access points are securely locked. |
